Sadeq Homayuni

Sadeq Homayuni was born in July 1934 to a scholar family in Sarvestan, Fars Province. He finished his preliminary school in this city, but for studying in high school he moved to Shiraz and was graduated in Literature. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Tehran’s Law Department.

His first writing, Will, was published in Golestan Journal in 1951; his first poem, Song, was published in Roshanfekr magazine in 1955 and his first story was printed by Sepido Siah magazine in the same year.

Sadeq Homayuni started to collect and record various components of folklore culture and published his first book, Songs from South, in this area in 1966. He has remained about 30 books and 200 articles. His most important works cover various dimensions of public culture including Taziah and Taziah-Khani in Iran and Shiraz. He also made many researches on various Iranian sub-cultures such as Qashqai, Lori, Mazandarani, Ahwazi Arabs, etc. Women and Their Songs in Iran’s Culture is one of his very valuable works.
