Mitra Abdullahi Illustrator of Sparrow Tales

Mitra Abdullahi (1973) is the illustrator of children and young adults' books who has been graduated with MS degree many years ago. She has illustrated many books so far, out which The First King of the World, Unbridled Horses, Twilight, I Talked to You, and I Become Green. Here you can read a part of her interview about illustration:

"For me, images of a book, apart from its modern or traditional approach, should create visual attraction for the audience and lets the audience to enter the world of the illustrator. Children only react through this communicational portal of mind and feelings. Hence, understanding the concepts in the contents will be possible and the narrative spirit of the work influences the audience. To achieve this, type of illustration becomes important. Children books' images not only deal differently with content and visual solutions but also they need to meet standards in terms of techniques, colors and their psychological effects on audience, qualities and visual elements. Like other arts, book illustration faces international fashions and patterns whose various approaches can be very informative for us; but sometimes it excesses the border between influence and training and leads to shear imitation. I think, illustrators need to be acquainted with the modern illustration techniques which help them to avoid repeated trial and errors, that have always already failed, and to save both intellectual and financial capitals considered for publishing a book.
